Dule SPE

Automated dual SPE

Process two solid phase extractions automatically in one method

The FREESTYLE system enables the automated processing of two solid phase extractions one after the other or in a row, without manual intermediate steps, around the clock, with excellent results and free of cross-contamination.

Since 1989, EU-wide livestock have been examined for residues of undesirable substances, e.g. B. Animal urine samples for steroids whose use as fattening aids is prohibited. The minimum detection limits apply, which must be achieved with the analysis method. In this case the minimum detection limit is 1 µg / l urine, ie synthetic steroids must be detected in the urine in very low concentrations.

Manual sample preparation is very complex due to the two solid phase extractions that have to be carried out one after the other. Due to the different viscosity of the samples, each individual sample must also be constantly checked to prevent the columns from blocking or running dry.

FREESTYLE BASIC equipped with SPE module

Faster processing time, higher sample throughput

With the FREESTYLE SPE, two solid phase extractions with different column formats can be processed in succession within one method. This enables a special software modification with which the creation of a “Dual-SPE” method is done simply by clicking on the required parameters. The method is saved and can simply be called up later so that it can be used by every employee in the laboratory routine.

Specially developed plungers minimize dead volume.

The use of specially developed plungers minimizes the dead volume in the columns, which can increase the flow rates. This reduces the processing time per sample and increases the sample throughput.

Due to the combination of the plungers and the positive pressure of up to 4 bar, with which the FREESTYLE system can work, the different viscosity of the samples hardly plays a role, since most of the samples are pushed through the columns without any problems. If, however, a column should block, the pressure monitoring of the system stops the sample, marks it in the software and begins processing the next sample. This enables processing around the clock, even on weekends.

Outstanding results

Automation is already used in the laboratory routine with convincing results:

  • The sensitivity is just as good as with manual processing
  • Improved consistency of the measurement signals due to constant boost pressure on the columns
  • Significant reduction in standard deviation
  • No cross contamination
